Taka's Story
In 2017, I volunteered in Indonesia and Nepal, and in 2018, I traveled alone across the African continent. What I appreciated there was heartbreaking-street children begging for money and homeless people with disabilities eating discarded food from the streets. Standing before such harsh realities. I felt deep disappointment in myself and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. That experience led me to make a vow: One day, I will become someone who can truly support children and people with disabilities living in difficult circumstances.
After returning to Japan, I worked at a welfare facility for people with disabilities.
Seeing how hard they worked despite their challenges reminded me of the true value of welfare and social work.
At the same time, I also appalled staff members losing hope in harsh working conditions.
That's when I made another promise to myself - Someday, I will build a welfare organization where staff can work with pride and dignity.
Through social media, I began connecting with people all over the world, and those connections gave me hope.
With the support of many people, I established GALATT, a non-profit organization in Japan.
In 2023, we opened our first orphanage, "Nikotto", followed by our second, "Flat".
